Declutter Challenge Day 22

It’s a great day to Simplify!  Welcome to day 22 of the Simplify NEPA challenge.  We are glad you committed to simplifying with us this month.

Take 5—10 minutes to declutter your freezer. It’s Freezer Friday. Time to dig in and get rid of all those mystery packages in the freezer.

Get rid of anything you can’t recognize, you don’t know how old it is or it is freezer burned. In the future make sure you label items with the name and date before put it in the freezer.

How long can items be frozen? Check out this guide from foodsafety.gov:  https://www.foodsafety.gov/keep/charts/storagetimes.html

Do you travel a lot or have a vacation home and worry about your frozen items defrosting? Try this tip next time you travel. Take a small container, fill it with water, and place it in your freezer until it’s frozen solid. Next, stick a quarter on the surface of the ice and put it back into the freezer.

If you find the coin still sitting on top of the ice, then you either didn’t lose power or it came back on soon enough. When you see that the coin has fallen to the bottom of the container, you know that the power was out and your food had defrosted.
