Take 5-10 minutes to declutter your coat closet.
Take out any items that have been haphazardly stored in the closet but belong somewhere else. Return those items to the proper place.
Look at each coat. Have you used it in the last year? If not put it in the donate pile. Throw away any coats that have holes, broken zippers or are worn and frayed.
Sort coats by either season or owner. Limit the number of coats to 1 dressy and 1 daily coat per season. Put them all on strong hangers, buttoning or zipping them up and putting back in the closet in the same direction.
