Take 5—10 minutes to sort your movie collection. This may take longer for some of you but its the weekend so tackle this project.

Do you have piles of DVDs, VHS or blue ray movies?

Decide on the space you want to allow for your movies. First take out all of the ones you don’t have the technology to play. For example if that VCR broke years ago, put those tapes in a pile. Next, put aside any movies you haven’t watched in over a year.

Movies can be donated to thrift stores or libraries. You can even sell them online or in yard sales.

Want to know how much your movies are worth, download this app to find out and start selling today.

Take 5—10 minutes and open your medicine cabinet. Take out all of your prescription and over the counter medications.

According to the FDA, expired medicines can be less effective and even dangerous.

Look at the expiration date of each medication. Put any expired medicines in a zip lock bag. Also, put any unfinished medications for a previous condition in the bag. Please store the bag in a safe location away from children and pets until they can be properly disposed of.

You can drop your medications off at many pharmacies for safe disposal. Contact your pharmacy to see if they have a disposal program. DePietro’s Pharmacy in Dunmore, PA has invested in a MedSafe Medication Disposal Box that allows ANYONE to safely dispose of unused or expired medications at no cost. Find out more at http://www.depietropharmacy.com/disposal/.

The FDA also has a guide to disposing medicine http://bit.ly/2Byue75

Take 5—10 minutes to declutter your plastic storage container cupboard.

Plastic storage containers seem to be hard to keep under control. First take out all of your plastic storage wear. Throw away or recycle all items that are cracked, broken or missing lids. Also get rid of older or stained pieces you use for microwaving. Find out why here: https://www.health.harvard.edu/…/microwaving-food-in-plasti…

Next recycle any old margarine, yogurt or other food containers you were saving to use.

Finally decide how many of the rest of the containers you need. If you have a set that stacks well together keep those. Re-purpose or donate the rest.

Take 5-10 minutes to declutter your hangers.

First, gather all of the unused hangers in your home. Look for them in bedroom closets, hall closets and laundry room.

Separate these excess hangers putting the wire hangers in one pile, the store hangers in another pile and the hangers to save in a third pile. Throw away any broken or bent hangers.

Take the pile of good hangers and hit your closets. Replace and wire or store hangers with the good hangers.

Wire hangers can be taken back to your dry cleaners. Store hangers may be donated to thrift stores. Check before you take them. Goodwill does not take hangers.

Planning a yard sale? Use your extra hangers to hang up the clothes for sale. When someone purchases the item, include the hanger.

Remember to just say no when you are asked if you want the hanger next time you purchase clothes.

Feeling creative? Try some hanger art like this from http://www.refabdiaries.com/…/upcycle-sculpted-hangers-stra…

What kind of hangers do you use? Do you like them to be all the same?

Take 5—10 minutes to declutter your linen closet.

Do you have linens you don’t use anymore? Maybe you changed your color scheme or your kids outgrew those Princess Sheets. Others might be too worn.

The guideline for the amount of sheets you should have is two sets (fitted sheet, top sheet and pillowcases) for each bed and guest bed in your home.

Fold the sets that you are going to keep and store them in the pillow case. Donate or sell the rest.

Trouble folding those sheets. Check out this video tutorial.

Take 5—10 minutes and open your sock drawer.
Find any socks with holes or are too stretched out or you just don’t wear and put them aside. Donate the good ones and throw out or re-purpose the rest.

Think you can mend that sock? Will you really? Put it in a bag with the date 3/4/2018 on it. If it isn’t mended by that date….throw it out.

Put any mismatched socks in a clear bag with the date 3/4/2018 on it. If you don’t find the match by that date…throw it out.

Here are some Ideas for re-purposing those socks:
Put on your hand and use as a duster
Use as a cover for an ice pack
Use as a polishing cloth

Before you get ready for the big game take 10 – 15 minutes and open that refrigerator. Throw away any expired items and leftovers.

Once opened many items can go bad after a day or two. Need help deciding? Check out the storage times chart found here: https://www.foodsafety.gov/keep/charts/storagetimes.html

Sometimes those expiration dates are hard to see. To keep your refrigerator up to date, every time you open a package, put a label with the throw away date on it.

Mugs of Hot Chocolate, Hot Coffee, Hot Tea….How many mugs do you need? Take 10 minutes to declutter those mugs.

Take all of your mugs out of your cupboard. Get rid of any mugs that are chipped, cracked or broken.

Now decide how many mugs you actually need. Write down the number of people who use a mug in your home. Write down the number of mugs they use a day. Multiply these numbers to see the amount of mugs you need each day. Also take into consideration if you ever have people over for coffee or tea.

Once you have come up with a number. Select your favorites from your mugs and put them away. Donate the rest.

Still need extra space? Consider adding mug hooks under your cabinet.
